Reader’s Advisor Profile — Natalie

One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid was race my dad through his pile of library books. He’d start at the top and I’d start at the bottom and we’d see who could finish first. The fact that I didn’t understand most of what I was reading probably gave me an edge since I could get through things much more quickly. As an adult that love of reading led me to a career as a high school English teacher and then ultimately to my current gig as a librarian. My philosophy throughout has always been that there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure when it comes to reading. If you enjoy reading it, then it’s just a pleasure.

One of my favorite parts about being a librarian is the opportunity to introduce people to a new book. There is nothing better in the world than finding out someone hasn’t read something that I love because I get the pleasure of recommending it to them. I’m also always fascinated to hear from people about books they didn’t enjoy because that’s just another window into helping them find something they’ll love.

Where You Can Find Me in the Library: On the second floor at the Adult Services desk or in the Computer Center

Where Else You Can Find Me: On my patio reading or gardening, curled up on my couch, or in my sewing room

Hobbies (that aren’t reading): video games, gardening, binge watching new tv shows, crafting adorable felt bats

My favorite genres to read: epic fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, cozy mysteries, chick lit, magic realism, graphic novels (I know, it’s a format not a genre, but I will devour them)

What I don’t read: Westerns, literary fiction, hard sci-fi, gory mysteries and thrillers
